Description
To mark the second anniversary of the Apology to Indigenous Australians the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) will be sponsoring 25 places in this new leadership program which will assist members of Stolen Generations to continue their journey of healing and also become inspirational leaders for their children and their children's children.
The Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership for members of Stolen Generations will give participants a toolbox of skills to work effectively in a business environment, and will also build skills in advocacy, good governance, network building and leadership.
Applications are open now and will remain open up until Friday July 30th 2010.

Course Purpose
Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership introduces key elements of Indigenous leadership in Australia and builds the capacity of emerging Indigenous leaders.
This course gives students the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to enable them to commence and be involved in pivotal roles in Indigenous Leadership.
Course Goals
The Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership will enable participants to achieve the following goals:
- learn about various leadership models and styles and how these leadership styles impact on the community, with an emphasis on developing personal, professional and community leadership
- develop a general knowledge of key Indigenous campaigns throughout the twentieth century
- integrate course leadership experiences into professional lives and communities
- develop a personal vision statement and a leadership development plan outlining goals the steps to implement it
- build leadership skills in a supported environment

Who should apply for the courses?
The Certificate II course is designed for Indigenous leaders (members of the Stolen Generations) who are commencing leadership positions or who are currently engaged in Indigenous community organisations, Government Departments, Private Sector, Small Business or Corporations at community and regional levels who:
- want to help shape the future of their community and region
- wish to develop the capacity and prospects to lead
- are committed to developing and sharing a vision for Indigenous Australians
- aspire to connect with other Indigenous leaders to build networks
What is the Educational Level?
The educational level is Year 8 or demonstrated equivalent.
Is the Certificate II course accredited?
Yes this course is accredited. Upon successful completion of course requirements, students will receive the award of Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership. All students will receive an Academic Transcript listing units achieved.

Leadership development
AILC courses develop the capacity of individuals to take on personal, community , work and family leadership roles by assisting them to recognise their current leadership skills and to identify further potential aspirations and work towards achieving these, through the development of a vision and plan. The courses assist individuals to improve their confidence to seek and take opportunities by providing a safe learning environment in which to practice.
