Course Sponsorship

The AILC has established partnerships with organisations who are committed to exploring new opportunities with Indigenous Australians, thereby helping to create a better economically, socially and culturally diverse Australia. The AILC is self-funding, gaining income from course sponsors (government departments, companies and not-for-profit organisations) and from grants and donations. Sponsored programs offer participants fully funded scholarships to travel to and attend residential components of courses.

Why a focus on Indigenous leadership?

The challenges faced by Indigenous communities in overcoming disadvantage will not occur without strong leadership from Indigenous people themselves. Leadership in these communities requires an approach that uses Indigenous cultural understandings of how to bring about change as well as drawing on western models of leadership. The AILC courses draw on both traditions, building participants’ skills in areas such as governance, planning, consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution while also exploring what leadership means in an Indigenous context

Why should your organisation consider sponsoring a course?

If your organisation has Indigenous staff, works with Indigenous communities or provides services to Indigenous people, you may wish to either sponsor a full course or sponsor places on a course. Sponsoring Indigenous leadership development is a positive way to make a difference to the current disadvantage faced by Indigenous communities

Course sponsors in 2007–2008 included:

  • Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs – two Certificate II and two Certificate IV courses
  • Attorney General’s Department – a recall program for students who have completed the Certificate Programs
  • South Australian Government – a series of short course programs for the “Leading Your Path to Our Future” program for Public Sector Aboriginal Employees
  • Australian Football League – Certificate II program for “Flying Boomerangs”.

Our current sponsors and partners include Citigroup, Reconciliation Australia, AIATSIS and government departments.

The AILC gratefully acknowledges this ongoing support from businesses, the corporate sector and individuals.

The AILC is currently seeking sponsors that are interested in contributing to the growth of effective Indigenous leadership across Australia. The AILC is endorsed as a deductible gift recipient. All donations to the AILC are tax deductible.
